When designing or refurbishing a kitchen it’s difficult to find the balance point between aesthetics and functionality. You want the space to look nice and welcoming and everything else but you also want it to include lots of storage and to be practical. It’s easy to get lost in the details and looking at a few projects and checking out different kitchen designs can really help.
Because this is an open plan kitchen, it was necessary to introduce accent materials and details which would help it stand out. At the same time, the design had to remain simple and in tone with the rest of the space. All those points were achieved just by incorporating white marble into the design. The entire island showcases the beautiful gray veins and the pattern and the backsplash uses the same style as well.
Working with black kitchen cabinets can be quite difficult given that they can quite easily overpower the room. However, the cabinets are barely standing out in this case. That’s because the actual focal point of the room is actually above the black cabinets, up on the wall and it’s an unexpected addition to the design. This whole apartment interior was designed by Emil Dervish.
Some materials and finishes are better than others at giving you that luxury kitchen look that you might aim for. White marble, particularly the type with pronounced vein patterns is a really great choice in this case. Pair it with solid woods, neutrals and minimalist shapes to achieve balance. This wonderful design was done by studio Stewart-Schafer.
Simplicity can take many different forms. You can create a really beautiful kitchen using only a few key materials, simple finishes and limited color schemes. Here for example you can see how elegant the warm neutrals are when combined with white surfaces and sophisticated marble accents.
Interior design studio Colombe renovated an apartment in Warsaw and gave it this really beautiful kitchen which we find absolutely charming. It’s an open kitchen with two-tone herringbone flooring, an elegant table that can also potentially serve as an island and cabinetry in two very different color schemes. We love the way in which wood accents were incorporated throughout this space.
It’s not just the neutral colors that work well with kitchens but also those that are less conventional. Take for example this design done by studio Snøhetta, It uses pink as the main color in combination with gold, green and wood accents. It’s definitely quite the exotic palette but it looks at home here. The modern kitchen cabinets maintain the needed simplicity to make this design work.
The color palette featured in this particular kitchen is quite interesting as well. The walls are white which sets a clean and bright background and in contrast the cabinetry features this dark blue hue which seems to create a smooth transition towards the dark floor tiles. Of course, it’s not just that. All the antique metal details add a lot character to the space both in combination with the corner kitchen cabinets and the island. This is an interior created by Gramercy Design.
Check out this other beautiful kitchen which brings back the charm and elegance of old Victorian homes but while still offering all the features that you’d expect from a modern kitchen. The colors are subdued but not without character. The walls are really soothing and the small island makes for a stunning focal points that goes perfectly with this style.
This kitchen is very lovely in an old-school and a bit rustic kind of way. The vibe is amplified by all the appliances, fixtures and hardware details as well as some of the decorations such as the little rug. Everything combined makes for a very cozy and inviting kitchen and the more you look at it the more interesting little details you discover. Some colors are quite controversial. Individually each has the potential to look great in certain contexts and it’s the way in which they are combined that becomes problematic. This is an open kitchen designed by Studio Shamshiri. It uses this nice mustard yellow nuance throughout its design. In the context of the entire home, it becomes clear that the color palette is composed of the rather unusual combination of yellow, red and blue which doesn’t sound promising but looks beautiful in this particular case.
